With so many factors in design options, programming language and of course the realities of what the client wants versus what a designer is capable of doing, there are often issues that arise that can cause problems in the development of the web design.
Often there is a lack of collaboration between different areas of the clients business and the designer. This means that strategies, marketing and advertising intentions often get overlooked. The result is often that the website does not evolve to its maximum potential.
There is also the decision between liquid or fixed layout of pages. Fixed pages have a set size standard whereas liquid will adapt to the device that is being used to access the page e.g. phone access. Some designers prefer to fix dimensions and appearance whereas others will use the liquid design which is more flexible but some feel loses the aesthetic appearance of a site. The choice really depends again on the purpose and audience of the website.
Flash programming has also caused issues. It is a fantastic tool for designing animation and moving images on a site and can create some striking visual appearances. There is a problem that if flash is used then it can be harder if not impossible for search engines to read the site as they rely on HTML tags.
One large conflict can be how the site looks versus how it works. Some designers focus more on the appearance of a site which, although it may look fantastic, can mean it is slower to load and does not get good search engine optimization. Depending on what the intention of the site is to achieve will all affect these issues and decisions can be made as to which route to take to create the most appropriate, attractive and successful website.
